DescriptionYou drive a Ferrari Testarossa through various stages each with a checkpoint at the end of the stage that must be reached within the time limit. The player can choose which route to take through the game. The driver also has a choice of three different themes to listen to while driving.Know anything more about this game? Cabinet InformationThere are four different style cabinets: a car shaped sit-down which uses a hydraulics system to move the cabinet about during game play with a 25" monitor , a second big sit-down version, with no hydraulics and simpler car and simple left to right movement with a 20" monitor, a deluxe upright with custom plastics, and a mini upright.Cheats, Tricks and BugsIf the Start button is pressed while approaching a checkpoint the following message will be displayed: "Program by Yu Suzuki 1986 Sep." That this "easter egg" will not work on all versions of the game, however.ConversionThe game can be converted to Turbo Out Run with the relevant upgrade kit.Scarcity in collections (VAPS.org)Very Common - There are 94 known instances of this game owned by one of our 900 members. Of these, 81 of them are original dedicated machines, 0 of them are conversions in which game circuit boards have been placed in another game cabinet, and 13 of them are only circuit boards which a collector could put into a generic case if desired.Of the 42,694 video games (3,154 unique) tracked by the Video Game Preservation Society, this game ranks a 48 on a scale out of 100 (100 = most commonly seen, 1=least common) in popularity based on ownership records. Wanted - There are 8 VAPS members currently looking for this game. Rarity is NOT necessarily an indication of value. Some common games show up as very rare here because collectors don't want them (they are common because arcade operatos might be sitting on tons of them in warehouses), while some fairly scarce games are grabbed by collectors every time they show up. Additionally, some games made in the last 5 years are still making money for operators and are thus not yet affordable to the typical collector. For a clue to value, compare how many people have this game vs. how many people want this game and then click on the eBay links to help determine an accurate price range. TechnicalThe game uses dual 68000 CPU's. The sound CPU is a Yamaha YM2151.TriviaThe three of the four soundtracks are called "Magical Sound Shower", "Passing Breeze" and "Splash Wave", all of which can be selected at the start of play. The final tune is called "Last Wave" and it is only played on the high-score board. The game was converted to the Spectrum, Amstrad, Commodore, Atari ST and Amiga computers by US Gold (now Eidos) in 1987. These home computer versions were supplied with an extra cassette featuring the arcade music. An Out Run Soundtrack CD was also released. Out Run was the second Sega release to feature "Super-Scaler" technology; the first was Space Harrier. FixesSome versions of the game have a suicide battery present on the game board, while others were manufactured without.
